About Us
On June 25th, 1870, an Ecclesiastical Council convened at Milton, Kentucky to recognize a new Baptist Church. The Articles of Faith and Church Covenant were read and adopted by the group. The Council then voted into recognition the thirty brethren and sisters as a Baptist Church which was then known as the Missionary Baptist Church.
The history of the Church from 1870 to 1894 is rather vague as there were no minutes or records available. One remarkable feature in this historical beginning is that the house of worship was given to the Church by S. E. Hampton, MD, of Milton before the Church itself was constituted.
This building was unfortunately situated in the extreme southern part of Milton on low ground that was inundated almost every year by backwater. This caused the structure to quickly decay. In October 1898, the Church decided to build a new building. By October 1900, a new building was completed and in place. Years went by and numerous disasters occurred, such as losing the parsonage twice, once by flood and another by fire. The Church itself was continually flooded.
In December of 1952, the people began to discuss the moving of the now Milton Baptist Church onto the Milton hilltop. Although the move was not made for nearly five years, the people voted and purchased land for a new building to be built at our present location. The Church building was completed and moved into May 1957. Much of the labor was done by the people of the Church and with assistance from members of neighboring churches.
As time went on, a house was purchased in the Fox subdivision to be used as a parsonage. Then after several years, a beautiful new parsonage was built on land purchased next to the church.
Milton Baptist Church has been remodeled over the years, but the greatest decision made was to build a new Educational/Fellowship Center which would be connected by a walkway to the Church. This new center afforded Milton Baptist several new classrooms and an expanded place to enjoy fellowship dinners.
Dedicated on February 12, 2006, the following was stated:
God grant this building will always be
A place for His Name
A place for His Work
A place for His Glory!
